Let’s just call this week…Debt Free Friday, on a Saturday! Because that’s how my life has been going this week. It’s been crazy busy, which isn’t all that unusual. But has included a lot more after hours stuff and the week just got away from me.
I had a board meeting. My infertility support group. An essential oils event. A super fun henna party. And of course work. SO the fact that I’m only a day behind is actually pretty impressive. Right now I’m sitting at my parent’s house working while Dustin and my mom take a load of stuff to the dump.
We’re busy spring cleaning our house, and it’s amazing how willing you are to part with crap when you’re faced with the prospect of having to pack and move it! Two weekends ago we took a huge load of stuff to donate. This week it’s trash. And hopefully, next weekend we’ll be able to pare down even more.
I’m on a binge and purge streak, and I like it. It will help us get to those projects we’ve been putting off that have to happen before we sell. So it definitely needs to happen soon. Now if only getting rid of debt was as easy as getting rid of the junk.
Luckily we’re doing alright in this area too. I’ve gotten us on a good cash budget system, which has helped us curb a lot of our bad behaviors. And by our bad behaviors, I mean my bad behaviors. Especially when it comes to grocery money.
I’m incredibly bad about making a shopping list. And when I do make a list I never seem to stick with it. So having the envelope system started and utilized makes a big difference. Don’t ever slack on this part you guys. Nothing is harder than parting with cold hard cash.
This is a single pay week. Which are the hardest for me, because there is no wiggle room. We can pay our bills, and our cash budget, and I’m learning to leave a little bit of cushion in the bank account to avoid any unexpected charges.
I’m really focusing on trying to boost my essential oils business, which I’m struggling with. I’m not sure if I’m not good at sales, or my friends are sick of hearing about my love of oils. But I know they’re a great product and I hope I can get some good ideas for sharing better! Plus I’ve got a vendor event next week!
This week I paid the rest of our credit card bills and set us up for next weeks auto-pays. We had one semi-unexpected bill come out and we had to scramble to transfer money between banks. Next week I think I’ll talk about the pros/cons of having multiple banks!
